Rusii au prenume din 1897

Toti  cetatenii rusi si-au primit un prenume cu adevarat cu aproximativ 100 de ani in urma, in timpul primului recensamant, in 1897. Pana in acest an in unele comunitati rurale prenumele era un fel de  porecla sau alint, cunoscut de toti locuitorii din satul natal si zonele invecinate cu acesta. 

In timpul recensamantului din 1897 prenumele fiecarui cetatean a fost dat dupa numele de familie. De exemplu,  de la Pavel  prenumele era constituit sub forma Pavlov  sau de la Petre, Petrov.  Astfel cele mai raspandite nume de botez din Rusia sunt derivate din numele de familie,  Ivanov, Petrov,  Vasiliev, Titov, Tarasov, Demidov, Egorov, Alekseev, Alexandrov, Andreev sau Mihailov  fiind cateva exemple.

In aceasta traditie si astazi prenumele copiilor deriva de la prenumele parintilor, de exemplu daca tatal are prenumele Andrei, copilul primeste un prenume diferit la care se adauga  Andreievici.

Femeile din Rusia preiau prin casatorie de la soti numele, adaugandu-se terminatia a, spre exemplu Eltsin-Eltsina, Gorbachov-Gorbachova, Putin-Putina.
